There are many things to discuss when preparing to sub on your first Broadway musical. It’s an incredibly intense situation to be in—but the more prepared you are, it becomes much less stressful.

The most important thing is to know the show inside and out. You should have practiced the show so often that by the time you are ready to sub, you are practically sick of hearing the music. You should be almost begging the drummer to have you in because you’ve practiced so much. You really shouldn’t play the show for the first time until you know it incredibly well.
