I finished ‘Get Back.’ My friends here were right. Yes, it got more interesting as the hours passed.

To sit through all of that was exhausting. But… it’s clearly for huge Beatles fans. It’s probably because I’m not the biggest Beatles fan. I enjoy most of their music, but I’m not a fanatic.

Things I thought were cool:

  • Watching the formation of the songs.
  • Seeing how happy they were after all of the years they’ve worked together.
  • Checking out Ringo’s playing. I love how he played the LLR, LLR pattern on the snare for ‘Get Back.’ He had an expressive style for so many of their songs. He was perfect for that band. I understand his massive influence on a generation of drummers.
  • Getting a glimpse at the technology of the recording studio back in 1969. Those knobs on the consoles – wow!
  • I love how they all recorded together as a band. Look, I think click tracks suck. Yeah, I said it! I can bury a click track just like any good professional drummer should, but I think they are unnecessary and make music suck and sound too rigid. The best music was made without it, and you can still make music without it. This doc is just more proof of that fact. I’m printing new T-shirts that will say: “Just Say NO to click tracks!”
  • Seeing the elevation of the sound and vibe when Billy shows up.
  • I was enjoying the rebelliousness of the rooftop concert. It’s nice to see a bit of anti-establishment behavior. Something that is much needed today.

BONUS: THEIR CLOTHES WERE SOOOOO COOL! I liked the conservative look of George Martin, the turtlenecks, the boots George Harrison wore…come on man, the style back then was incredible.

I feel it could have been a three-hour doc and gotten the point across for people like me.

I get it. It’s really cool to see all of that – if you are a huge fan.

Now, get me footage of Prince making any of his records from 1978-1987, and I’ll be glued to the TV set for seven days straight with no sleep, food, or water.
