Round K was the first stop of a food adventure that my daughter and I took a few days ago. We stopped at this really cute coffee shop on the lower east side.

We met some really nice people while we were there. There was a woman with her 18 year old daughter who were visiting from North London. The mom? A free spirit for sure. Her daughter was very similar. We all chatted about all kinds of things in a relatively short period of time.

I discovered that they have a similar outlook on life as I do. They travel in the same fashion I do when I travel with my girlfriend. When we visit new places, my girlfriend and I tend to stay away from tourist traps. We head to more interesting, out of the way places; you know, where locals tend to congregate.

The mother and daughter combo I met here at Round K seem to travel the same way. They stopped here for coffee before they took a walk over the Brooklyn bridge. They had no intention of seeing any of the things you are supposed to see if you come to NYC.

After chatting with them for a while, they both advised us on what to choose from the menu.

We had three things.

1) I AM AVOCADO

It’s avocado on sourdough with Kimchi butter, mixed nuts, sundried tomato, chili and lime. Soooo good.

2) EGG CAPPUCCINO (HOT)  It’s Korean cappuccino with an egg yolk and whipped cream

and

3) MATTE BLACK LATTE(ICED)

This is what my daughter heard about and really wanted to come here to try. It’s Round-K hell blend coffee with 98% dutch processed cacao, almond milk. It’s vegan too!

It turned her lips, tongue and teeth totally black. She loved it.

I must say, it was very good when I tried it.

I recommend this spot and their coffee.

The mom from London who I was chatting with told me after a while that I should “let my hair down.” She is moving to Greece soon. Her kids are all grown and she plans on just up and leaving to try a new place to live. I think she got a certain vibe from me. I assume she thought with a random stranger telling me to get out of my comfort zone, I’d move forward with the things I intend to do with the rest of my life. It was kind of random, yet intriguing.

Get out of your comfort zone and get your butt down here to try this delicious food. It will be worth the trip. #roundk
