Life is a precious gift that can be unexpectedly fleeting.

I remember when my girlfriend Bryn introduced me to Dr. Bioh years ago. I soon realized why she regarded him as the best primary care doctor in NYC.

I had an opportunity to schedule my first physical with him several years ago. During the appointment, he genuinely took the time to get to know me, asking thoughtful questions and even inquiring about how Bryn was doing. Dr. Bioh’s personalized approach continued as he personally called me to share test results – yet another demonstration of his care and dedication to each patient.

We discussed the uncertainties surrounding the “coronavirus” during my visit in March 2020, and I appreciated his honest perspective. Our last meeting in March 2021, amidst the vaccine and mask hysteria, was filled with thoughtful conversations about various topics and ended with him understanding that the decisions I was to make for myself and my family were well-informed. He was NOT pushing me to conform or acquiesce to the madness I was seeing. He listened, which is why I felt he was so good.

I had an appointment to see Dr. Bioh on my birthday last week and received a call that the appointment had to be rescheduled due to a medical emergency and that the office would call me back. They never did.

His untimely passing came as a shock, and we mourn not only the loss of a remarkable doctor but also a pillar of the community in Harlem for so many years before he moved a bit further downtown.

It’s disheartening to lose such a remarkable individual while our media often amplifies negativity. I’ve shifted my perspective over the years, and I only focus on what is truly important to me: my girlfriend, kids, immediate family, and closest friends…that’s what matters most because anything can happen anytime. Dr. Bioh’s absence reminds us of how fragile life can be, urging us to focus on what truly matters and make the most of our time.

I recently updated my will and healthcare proxy, acknowledging the importance of preparing for the future. As I reflect on my recent 57th birthday, I’m determined to cherish each moment and embrace all the beauty around us.

Remember, life is short—live your life the best you can. I’m doing whatever I can to leave a positive legacy, just like Dr. Bioh.
