This is footage of the sitzprobe of a show I’m working on in San Francisco called The Hippest Trip-The Soul Train Musical.
For those that don’t know,
A sitzprobe is a term used in the theater and opera world to refer to the first rehearsal where the cast and orchestra come together to practice the music. It’s an opportunity for the performers to sing and play through the music while seated, focusing on the vocal and orchestral aspects without the full staging.
The term “sitzprobe” comes from German: “sitz” means “sit” and “probe” means “rehearsal” or “trial.” So, a sitzprobe is essentially a “seated rehearsal” where the music is the main focus before incorporating movement and staging.
The cast certainly wasn’t sitting for long!!
I have a feeling this show is going to be really good!
