I’m watching a bunch of music documentaries now. I’m learning so much.
I really never knew a lot about Gil Scott-Heron. I knew his “hits” but really didn’t know how interesting this guy was. I need to go back and listen to his older albums.
I saw a movie today called “Black Wax.” It was a film originally released in 1982 featuring concert footage, scenes from Washington D.C. and clips from a wax museum. It was really interesting.
I was watching the movie and saw footage of him on the campus of my Alma Mater, Howard University. He was there two years before I arrived. The campus and students looked the same as it did when I got there.
I love how he spoke about Ronald Reagan in this film. He mentioned how he was “acting” like a president. It was very similar to how a lot of people think about a TV star who is president now. Actors are great at fooling people. You often believe their characters, even when they are not good at what they do. They also get re-elected when in office.
Gil showed the gloom and doom imagery of some of the protests in front of the White House in this movie. Folks thought the world was gonna end in 1982. Things were bad back then….or so it seemed. It didn’t end. Life went on and on.
Just thought I’d remind you of that fact for those who are terrified right now.
