You know what’s really nice to see? A 55th wedding anniversary party. A wedding anniversary with people who look like my parents!! Well, they don’t actually look like them. Their skin tone is exactly like them…and me.

As anyone who plays club dates, you rarely play weddings where there are a brown skinned couple getting hitched. In my 20-plus years of playing these gigs, I can count on one hand the number of dates where both the bride and groom were like me.

Could it be that they just want a DJ, they can’t afford a full band or they just aren’t getting married as often? Maybe all three. I have no idea.

I do know that my parents made it 55 years and so did these folks.

I’m happy to see a successful partnership. There aren’t too many couples who get to have celebrations like this.
