You know how many deadbeat dads I know? NONE! ZERO!! 

Every  “single father” I know is just like me. Every one. If you know anything about me, you know what that means. If you don’t know, look me up on the internet.

All of us got screwed by the family court system in one way or another but managed to come out stronger than before. Stronger and more committed.

I am done with the stupid stereotype of the black man as uninterested in raising their offspring. More often than not, we are forced out of the lives of our kids by mean, wicked, vindictive, bitter mothers. We may not want to be with them, but we damn sure want to be with our kids.

It’s nice to see something positive written about fathers once and a while.

In her book, “The Best Kept Secret: Single Black Fathers,” associate professor of sociology at Marquette University Roberta L. Coles writes that “monies, scholarly research, and public debate have nearly entirely focused on non-custodial fathers or so-called ‘irresponsible fathers’ for which black fathers have become the poster child.”

In her research, which included interviews of single, black fathers, Coles discovered, “African American fathers struggle to extricate themselves from the negative and restrictive cultural baggage that attends the ‘black male’ identity in American society.”
