Sapiens – a recommendation from Gabe Cummins. I got to know him better during our downtime working on a pretty sweet gig in Maui this summer.
We had a chance to talk about our lives, music, history, and yes politics. We also discussed books we liked to read and found out we have similar tastes.
Gabe told me about ‘Sapiens’ by Yuval Noah Harari. It’s a book about what it means to be human. It covers two and a half million years of human evolution and weaves insights from science and the humanities.
It’s a long book, but worth the investment of time. I especially enjoyed the information on myth-making and shared fiction. The way the author describes things that don’t have a physical presence in the world, like money, human rights, corporations, and God was so interesting to me.
It’s well worth your time if you love history as I do.
