Tonight I wondered when the next time a celebrity would come see our show. It’s been a while since I’ve seen someone come backstage. Then…BAM!! Out of nowhere comes this woman. Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
When we get done with the show, I walk from upstage then make my way to the basement through stage left so I can change out of my costume. When I see a bunch of people already in the wings, I know someone famous is there to visit the cast backstage.
I thought I recognized her as I passed the pack of people she was with. My assumption was correct.
By the time I passed her, one of our percussionists Roger Squitero was already deep in a conversation with her. They were reminiscing about a discussion they had at the Kennedy Center Awards years ago regarding their love of the Yankees.
I ran downstairs to get changed so I could get back up to shake her hand and maybe have a quick chat of my own before everyone else came to say hello.
I did say hi, but didn’t have enough time to talk about the things I really wanted to discuss. I was ready to go into depth about the recent decisions that were handed down in June, especially the…nah, I wasn’t gonna ask her anything that deep.
Having a job where I get to meet people I admire is pretty damn cool.
